Firewood

Eco Friendly Firewood Service

The annual wild harvest of firewood in Australia is estimated to be as high as 5 million tonnes. This represents an enormous loss of habitat for over 300 species of native animals that depend on hollow logs and fallen timber for shelter. Most of the firewood sold from local wood yards is sourced from remnant River Red Gum forests in Victoria and NSW. This wood trucked long distances at significant environmental cost.

Using sustainable, plantation grown firewood, not only promotes revegetation and preserves existing habitat, it mitigates soil erosion and salinity; it also reduces greenhouse gas emissions because half the biomass remains in the ground. It is estimated that about 250,000 different species of arthropods reside only in the canopies of eucalypts. It would be strange if such a smorgasbord did not attract many predators.

Our seasoned, competitively priced firewood is produced locally; predominantly from diverse native hardwood plantations in a range of sizes that reflect the requirements of different types of burn and the diversity and waste minimisation of our production system. For most of our customers this means little or no splitting and cleaner combustion.

Currently the wood yard in Victor Harbor is selling Tas Bluegum firewood for $440.00/tonne and Redgum for $580/tonne plus delivery charges. Adelaide prices are even higher. The current price for our wood is $370/weighed tonne, with free delivery to Victor Harbor and environs.
